It was Woden’s day. The sky was so azure, like a gargantuan sapphire reflecting the scenery of our world and our lives. My friends and I decided to embark on a journey to the museum. Clement as the weather was and gleeful as our reunion could be, I felt some kind of sorrow within my heart. Because when summer becomes history and the leaves put on their vermillion coats, we will have to bid each other farewell and probably be worlds away.
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” This is Dr. Seuss’ famous quote. He was right. Time just flies, like a shimmering arrow, suddenly out of reach. However, if we enjoy every moment of life and live it to the fullest, there shall be no remorse. And that was what I decided to do.
We strode our way across the entrance, heading into an enthralling world of science and nature. We danced along with music and sounds; we played mischievously with numbers and formulae. We embraced physics, chemistry and biology which reminded us of the good old days at school. We witnessed numerous intriguing experiments, each of which was a treasure chest full of priceless knowledge.
To my pleasure, we entered the Hall of Life. It is an exhibition room telling the history of life─from the beginning to…well, the end has not come yet. So many eccentric creatures… the path of evolution sure is fantastic.
Dinosaurs. Yeah, dinosaurs. The terrible lizards. Dinosaurs are doubtlessly some of the most magnificent creatures to have ever appeared. As a matter of fact, during my childhood, I was haunted by dinosaurs of all kinds! Yeah, tell me about them. Tyrannosaurus rex, deinonychus, velociraptor, plesiosaurus, iguanodon, stegosaurus, triceratops, ankylosaurus, parasaurolophus, brachiosaurus, brontosaurus, diplodocus...you name it! Come to think of it, these tremendous animals have once reigned over the entire planet. However, only left now are their rigid and silent bones. Seems astonishing, but also somewhat pathetic, no?
It rained awhile in the afternoon. The air was damp and filled with moisture, filling our hearts with cozy vibes as we stood under the eaves. I placed my eyes on the transparent raindrops dripping down from the somber aether. Time slipped away with them, taking tears and laughter along. Yet our spirits linger on; we long for a bright future, a splendid life.
Thank you, Sandy, Jenny and Brian. Thank you for sharing this wonderful day with me. Departure, albeit inevitable, doesn’t mean “the end.” As long as we believe in the way, we will have the chance to meet again.
